MINGLED DESTINIES. William Clark's journal reads, "oh joy." At long last, the Corps of Discovery reaches the Pacific. We too, reach the ocean at the completion of our journey. In the sands lie the bones of the Peter Iredale; wrecked here ninety-three years ago this month, all hands saved. Low tide, herring gulls wheel on the sea breeze, not foggy yet not clear. Moody. The sands shift. The waves, unchanging. The crew of a four-masted barque, the discoverers of 1805, and those who walk this beach today share a similar experience. Yet brought to this shore by different circumstances. A milestone in our separate journeys. Each moves on. Travelers all.
