Bartolomé & Santiago Islands

Our day began with a pre-breakfast climb up 378 stairs to the summit of Bartolomé where we were rewarded with a magnificent view of the island. The sight from up high gave us a chance to reflect on the beauty of these wonderful islands, something we would keep in our thoughts throughout the day as we were enjoyed free time to wander and experience Bartolomé and James Islands.

After breakfast we took Zodiacs to the beach where we had the opportunity to walk across sand dunes and experience the beauty of a female turtle as it was resting at the south beach, then back at the northern beach where we snorkeled and did some swimming too. Our younger guests also enjoyed the time on the beach building sand castles and watching the penguins and sea lions swimming by in the shallow water.

It was a time where we could relax and reflect on the many exciting things we’ve seen over this past week. In the afternoon, we had one last hike on Santiago Island where we saw fur seals, sally light foot crabs, iguanas and many more flora and fauna. We really hope our guests enjoyed the opportunity on this trip to see so many different species of birds, fish, and other sea mammals coexisting.

From this enchanted islands of Galápagos, the staff of the Polaris wishes you all a Merry Christmas!
