Isabela and Fernandina Island
Our day started with a beautiful sunrise around Roca Redonda. Later in the morning we had a great time while crossing the equatorial line. Many of our guests crossed it for the very first time today. Along the navigation we enjoyed the magnificent view of the majestic Ecuador volcano. We anchored at Punta Vicente Roca where we went on the Zodiacs to visit this wonderful location. We had a blast of a time during the Zodiac ride for we found many sea turtles. The bizarre-looking fish species called Mola mola, or ocean sunfish, was amazing. This fish can reach spectacular sizes; the one we observed today easily exceeded five or six feet in diameter! Big marine iguanas on the volcanic coastline were admired as well. Weather conditions were almost perfect for water activities as snorkeling and kayaking. A prodigious amount of sea turtles and some penguins were highlights of a successful snorkeling outing.
After a delicious lunch the Polaris sailed with destination to the most pristine island in the Galápagos Archipelago, Fernandina Island. We anchored in Punta Espinoza located on the eastern side of Fernandina. This visitor’s site is one of the most spectacular and impressive places in the world. Again we were fascinated with the abundance of the unique wildlife of this remote and magical place.
