Los Islotes & Ensenada Grande
The first lights of this day found us in the vicinity of Los Islotes, a small group of islets that are home of a wide variety of wildlife. Our first activity of the day was for those venturous snorkelers who wanted the experience of swimming close with the sea lions that use these rocks as their home all year round. We had great encounters with young playful individuals and other large animals who just surveyed our activities.
After returning to the ship, we took Zodiac tours along the inner front of the islets, to watch all these animals at their rest positions, grumbling, barking and even posing for pictures. We also saw during these tours, some of the birds that live in the rock formations, such as brown boobies, blue footed boobies, yellow footed gulls and also a great blue heron standing on its nest.
In the afternoon, we moved into one of the wonderful caves that forms the shoreline of this complex of islands (Espiritu Santo and Partida Islands), Ensenada grande, where the fleet of kayaks was deployed and used. Other activities were naturalists guided walks of different lengths and also a Photo oriented walk up into the arroyo.
To end the day, the galley and hotel department from the National Geographic Sea Bird, organized a dinner on the beach for the enjoyment of all us, and just before the sun went down William told us Aztec stories about the origin of the Moon and the Sun.
