Our Greek guides, traveling with us throughout our stay in Greece, gave us a splendid introduction to the site and to Greek mythology. It is hard to keep track of all the gods and goddesses, especially since the Romans later inherited some but changed their names. You really need help from someone who knows the details!
At Delos you also find the temple shown in the photo -- of Isis, the Egyptian goddess. Again it shows how different civilizations have merged into each other. Of course the famous lions have to be photographed. Some of us were also able to see some interesting wildlife. Large agama lizards were posted on top of several rocks, and we saw birds including crested lark, chukar and a lot of migratory birds resting en route to Africa. Some even saw a sea turtle from the Zodiac.
By lunchtime Caledonian Starsat sail for the "unknown" island of Folegandros. Before afternoon tea we enjoyed an excellent lecture about "People of the Aegean Sea and their Art."
At 5 o'clock we arrived at Folegandros and we entered the small harbor by Zodiac. The only bus took us up to the town. I think every one wanted to stay for at least a week and even forever! It is so easy to fall in love with this island. Time for dinner and we are now heading for the Corinth Canal.
