Continuing our visit to Rio de Janeiro today, Caledonian Star guests again had some wonderful options. A small group of 14 visited the Poco das Antas Biological Reserve looking for the Golden Lion Tamarin. This reserve holds up to 400 of these beautiful primates and many were seen by our group, including some little babies. Others in our group opted to explore some of the interesting sights within the city. A trip up the Cosmo Velho railcars took us to the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, since 1930 the preeminent symbol of Rio de Janeiro. In the photo you can see that we were enjoying the delightfully cool morning from the top of the Corcovado Mountain. One of our naturalists, Suzana Machado D'Oliveira, was born in Rio and her mother (who still lives here) used an old Brazilian method for bringing us such wonderful weather. Offer a dozen eggs to someone who needs them and great weather is sure to follow! Brazil amazes us with its interesting traditions and lively manner.
