You really can't ask for a better first morning -- the sun is shining, the mountains are out and the glaciers are absolutely glorious. We just went ashore at this stunning little bay in Lilliehookfjorden. Many people hiked up a scree slope, bound for an alpine lake and beyond. The hikers in the foreground, however, were focusing on the abundant Arctic plant life. Naturalist Gretchen Pederson found plenty to talk about here, as the seemingly barren landscape is actually verdant upon closer inspection. Kind of hard to keep everyone's attention focused on the ground with scenery like that behind them, but Gretchen never has had a problem keeping people's attention!!
