This beautiful misty day in the Pacific Northwest had a calm start with a yoga stretch class on the top deck. The captain, officers, and crew of National Geographic Sea Bird expertly docked us into the port of Astoria so the arranged motor coaches could pick us up and whisk us away for all of our daily activities.
Our adventure commenced with a thoughtful video and short lecture at Fort Clatsop Historic Site. A tour of the grounds and recreated fort led our group to the historical Lewis & Clark landing site. Also, naturalists were on hand to lead walks focusing on the beauty of temperate rainforest in abundance around us.
The afternoon allowed for expedition landing craft tours, a bit of time at the Maritime Museum in Astoria, or a trip out to Cape Disappointment and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. The guests bound for Cape Disappointment were able to visit the confluence project, one of notable Maya Lin’s less known work. Some daring people tested the Pacific waters, by dipping their toes in, at Waikiki Beach. A glorious day on the river complete with a fabulous crab dinner!
