Today we awoke anchored at Floreana Island, also known as the mystery island because of all its beautiful and intriguing tales. It is a famous island because of its historical significance with pirates and settlers. Floreana is also known for its unique flora and fauna, including giant tortoises and endemic plant species. We spent the entire day exploring a few different sites on land and at sea.
We started our day visiting the Post Office Barrel. This old wooden barrel was used by whalers and sailors in the 18th century as a makeshift mail system. Sailors would leave letters in the barrel addressed to their destinations, and incoming sailors would take letters with them and deliver them upon arrival. Today, our guests participated in this tradition by leaving postcards in the barrel for others to take and deliver. It is a unique and charming way to connect with fellow travelers and experience a piece of maritime history.
In the afternoon we landed at Punta Cormorant. We had amazing and exciting animal sightings, along with a spectacular sunset to finish the day.
