Today we spent the entire day visiting Espanola Island enjoying different activities at two different locations on the island.
Espanola Island doesn’t have the typical soup plate upside down shape anymore because it’s an old volcano without volcanic activity for a long period of time. That is the reason for its unique flora and fauna which is found only on this Island of this oceanic archipelago. This volcano will be the next one to disappear under the South America tectonic plate in a couple of million years’ time, according to the tectonic plate’s movement theory.
Our day started with a beautiful equatorial sunrise and with a feeding frenzy of a couple of hundred Galapagos sea birds. This was a perfect time of the day to start kayaking in the crystal blue waters of Galapagos. The activity was fantastic because we spotted lots of turtles mating as well.
Later in the morning we continued our expedition with deep water snorkelling and by exploring the shore on one of the most spectacular beaches in the Galapagos, Gardener Beach.
The beach activity was so beautiful and interesting for birding and sea lion observations and playing with them.
Our final activity of the day took place at Punta Suarez. This location is quintessential Galapagos covered with many different species of sea birds, land birds and many other endemic creatures of this Island.
Tomorrow we will visit a different Island and I am certain that at the end of this week everyone will learn that Galapagos is unique from Island to Island and sometimes from one visitor site to another on the same Island.
This was a great day with nice weather and lots of amazing memories.
