After an eventful week exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, we are heading north to Ushuaia. Our relaxing day at Drake’s Passage was spent on deck, photographing the curious sea birds that followed our ship while other guests attended presentations by Captain Martin Graser and naturalist staff members.
After spending yesterday afternoon in the company of the Southern Ocean’s top predator, the killer whale, we began the day with our very own killer whale expert, Josh McInnes, who gave insights into the mysterious life of these creatures.
After lunch, Tom Ritchie gave his talk on the earliest explorers of the Antarctic Peninsula, and the captain shared colorful accounts of his own experience navigating polar waters over the years. It is a privilege for all of us to witness the passion this area has inspired in him, and to share his final Antarctic expedition aboard National Geographic Orion before he joins National Geographic Endurance.
