Lord of the Glens set off from Fort Augustus during breakfast, beginning our last full day on the Caledonian Canal. During our journey to our berth at Corpach, we sailed through several notable features of the canal, including Moy Bridge, the canal’s last hand-operated cast iron swing bridge.
After lunch, the ship entered Neptune’s Staircase, a series of eight locks that lower the canal by 19 meters. Before reaching the bottom of the locks, we disembarked for the afternoon’s activities. Some went off kayaking on Loch Linnhe while others headed up to Glenfinnan, historically significant as the site where Prince Charles raised his standard at the beginning of the last Jacobite rebellion. The day was capped off by a visit from the Glenfinnan Estate Manager Alistair Gibson, with an overview of all that is involved in managing such a large estate.
