Christmas morning was spent on National Geographic Explorer in Cierva Cove. There, we enjoyed snowy Zodiac cruises amongst giant icebergs, humpback whales, and all three species of brushtail penguin: gentoo, chinstrap, and Adelie! We even had a special surprise from the hotel boat, and we enjoyed hot chocolate on the water while we took in the amazing scenery.
In the afternoon, we visited Mikkelsen Harbor, a glaciated area with a few islands, including Bombay Island, the location of an Argentine base. We were lucky to come across many Weddell seals and a few crabeaters resting on icebergs.
We could not imagine a better place to celebrate Christmas with family and new friends in a true winter wonderland!
