Wildlife on parade this morning in Freshwater Bay, just off Chatham Strait. Well before breakfast we spotted a group of at least nine humpback whales doing a unique behavior called cooperative bubble net feeding. Spectacular! While watching the whales, a brown bear with three small cubs was walking along the shore in full view.
After breakfast the whale show continued with a larger group of fourteen humpbacks. We stayed with them until mid-morning before heading south towards Hanus Bay, our afternoon destination. Naturalist Emily Mall gave her presentation about salmon as we made our way. We stopped in Sitkoh Bay where we added more brown bears to our list. First we spotted two adults, followed by a female with two cubs. A big day for bears!
Before hiking on the Lake Eva trail, we explored the area by Zodiac. On land, we hiked into the heart of the largest temperate rain forest on planet earth. Our full day ended with the world premiere of our very own guest slide show.
