We started our day in Baja with a beautiful sunrise through the mangroves. Immediately after, we began our morning stretching class while the sky continued to change colors.
Right after breakfast, we got ready for our first round of whale-watching. This time, local pangueros drove the Zodiacs. We headed out to the breaking waves at the mouth of the lagoon. It felt like we were on a roller coaster ride! The slight difference was that we noticed spouts in the distance. After spending some time here, we encountered a mother and a calf in the lagoon. It was different from our experience in Almejas; this time, we had the chance to observe the pair’s special bond. The mother gray was relaxed in the presence of the Zodiacs. We watched the calf roll on its back toward its mother. When she decided it was time to move on, the whales swam away from us.
After lunch, some of our guests went back for a second round of whale-watching as others headed to the shoreline of Magdalena Island. Here, videographer Dexter encouraged us to do some sand dune jumping. We explored the sand dunes all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Naturalist Linda Burback had an opportunity to make plaster animal tracks with our youngest passenger, Lucas.
It was time to head back to the ship and grab a drink to enjoy on the sundeck as we watched our last sunset from the northern end of Magdalena Bay.
