We are enjoying our early morning outings so much. There has not been rain showers during our outings in this jungle that offers possibilities of rain every day. The mornings have been so productive regarding sightings of mammals and birds of all colors and sizes. During our outing we spotted monkeys in the early hours as they had their breakfast, including fruit and insects. Moments later we spotted some of the jewels of the jungle! Two types of macaws perching in trees, some of them were the red bellied and others the large and dazzling blue and yellow macaws. Indeed, it was worth every minute out in the vast green forest.
The exploration outings here are planned in two ways: some go onboard skiffs and cover longer distances. Others who prefer more quiet and longer time on the creek chose kayaking. The two outings gave us a lot of sightings. In addition to interesting wood peckers and toucans, we had the most relaxed saki monkey above us!
In the late afternoon we planned an exploration at night on the Dorado River. But, before it was night time, we paid a visit to the garden of giant lily pads! It is not a manmade garden, it is a natural one that happens to be at its best at this time of the year. As the day ended, we had the opportunity to discover the night life of the jungle and its sounds. The most exciting encounters in the night were the glowing eyes of white caimans resting on the floating vegetation. On the trees we had birds that forage at night, and in the air -- fishing bats! Including one bat with a fish in its mouth!
What a beautiful day and night in the heart of the jungle!
