Early in the morning we had a pre-breakfast outing — a skiff ride in search of wildlife. As we rode the skiffs, we encountered a few blue-and-yellow macaws flying through the canopy. We also spotted pink and gray river dolphins swimming around the area and fishing nearby. Most of our guests were thrilled to see the pink dolphins near our skiffs.
The Upper Amazon in Peru is one of the wildest and most remote places on earth; it is full of thousands of unique species. The rainforest in the Amazon basin produces up to 50% of its own precipitation. We had a little rain for a couple of hours, but for the rest of the day the weather was perfect. We observed a troop of squirrel monkeys jumping among the canopy, and greater anis following them to catch the insects scattered by the monkeys.
