Today we started to get into even more remote areas to explore. Even though we found many beautiful things today, definitely and by far the best sighting today was a female southern tamandua anteater. We surprised the tamandua as it was moving fairly low through the forest and close to the water. Tamanduas are not fast moving or agile animals, and though this one did its best to get away from at us, to our luck we found it in an area with scattered small trees. As the tamandua gained in elevation and tried to make into the nearby thicker forest, it made the mistake of using a branch that was too weak for its weight. The branch broke, and it ended up falling into the water.
Finally it managed to get a hold of another tree, and this time more carefully it made it’s way to the secure high canopy—but not after it had put a nice show for all of us, and we all had seen it very well!
