The day started very early this morning, we hiked up to the top of the 376 stairs surrounded with an amazing lava landscape to get to the most popular sea view of the Galapagos: The Pinnacle Rock of Bartolome.
Afterwards, some of us went to the beach for a refresher swim and just relax in the sand as sea lions do. There were a lot of activities in the water, where swimmers were exploring the area while brown pelicans were diving and swimming around.
Glass-bottom boat outings started right after beach time, and we were exploring the Pinnacle Rock area looking for fish. We spotted lots of different species of starfish, pufferfish, razor surgeons, a shark and striped salemas. It was a wonderful experience for our guests that had never experienced this before.
At the same time in the morning, the first round of deep snorkelers were swimming and had a good time as well.
Back to the ship for a Mexican lunch, the food was amazing: Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, different salads, excellent desserts and super tasty margaritas filled us up with lots of energy for the afternoon activities. We started with a presentation on Charles Darwin in the lounge, followed by a second round of snorkeling, a sketching class in Sombrero Chinos Beach, and Zodiac rides all along the coast of Santiago Island, where we looked for penguins and found a small colony resting on the lava rocks. Sea lions were also around, some juveniles interacting with the Zodiacs, and in the background, a stunning orange sunset.
The night started with recaps of the day, then barbeque dinner on the observation deck, and finally a live music performance by the physician and captain of the ship, who encouraged our guests to sing along. Everyone enjoyed even more this amazing day.
