Today we visited two satellite islets near Santiago Island, a middle-aged island full of wildlife and human history. Not only was it home and shelter to pirates and privateers, but it was also Charles Darwin's favorite island, including its satellite islets.
Bartolomé is located in Sulivan Bay, named after Bartholomew Sulivan, a good friend of Captain Fitzroy. With its 368 steps to the spectacular view of Pinnacle Rock, it has gained worldwide fame. Near Bartolomé, a unique and diverse site known as Chinese Hat is found. This monogenic cinder cone is considered a hot spot for marine life. At both locations we enjoyed all the activities offered, including an early morning walk, Zodiac ride, snorkeling, and beach time. The day couldn’t have been more perfect, since our excursions were filled with playful bottlenose dolphins, shiny and colorful fish, as well as cute Galapagos penguins!
