This morning, we woke up to the sound of howler monkeys in Gatun Lake, right in the middle of the Panama Canal. After a delicious breakfast, we had the choice to explore Barro Colorado Island, run by the Smithsonian Institute, or to visit the Rainforest Discovery Center by Pipeline Road, located near the town of Gamboa. We observed lots of wildlife, including crocodiles, caimans, toucans, monkeys, iguanas, anteaters, agoutis, and much more.
Our Panama Canal pilot came on board after lunch, and we continued our transit through Pedro Miguel and Miraflores Locks in order to get back to sea level on the Pacific Ocean. We had a wonderful time on the bow and the sundeck, followed by a Panamanian feast.
