With the spectacle of South Georgia behind us, we take to the high seas again, bound for the White Continent. The body of water we have entered is known as the Scotia Sea. Part of the Southern Ocean, the Scotia Sea is bound by the volcanically rich South Sandwich Islands to the east, the South Orkney islands and the South Shetland Islands to the south, the Drake Passage to the west, and the latitudes dividing Cape Horn and South Georgia to the north.

Our transit has been a tad bumpy, but the sea and wind conditions also offer opportunity for beautiful waves and happy sea birds. Cape petrels and the occasional snow petrel accompany us for much of the day. Our heading is decidedly southwest, bound for the Weddell Sea. With another day of travel ahead of us, we are bound to find more sea birds and more weather, as we earn our passage into the realm of ice!
