For the first half of our day, we used National Geographic Resolution as our primary expedition vessel, and our efforts paid off. We had an amazing encounter with a small group of orcas. Right off our bow, guests were able to take photos of these apex predators of the sea.

After lunch, we deployed our Zodiacs and spent the afternoon exploring among the ice and waters around the Fish Islands. We had some of the best wildlife encounters of the entire trip this afternoon, including witnessing several humpback whales feeding in the waters around us. We were in awe of the size and grace of these animals as they moved through the waters around our Zodiacs. We were also able to zoom by the ice sculptures that dotted the sea. And of course, penguins! We found a colony of Adelie penguins that we were able to experience up-close.

It was a fabulous day way down here on the Antarctic Peninsula aboard National Geographic Resolution.
