We are enjoying the amazing weather! It has been pretty dry, and we are having so much fun, enjoying every second we spend outside in the forest or on water. These conditions have allowed us to arrange outings before breakfast, and our guests have really enjoyed them. This morning we visited Marayali Creek which connects the two major tributaries of the amazon in the region Marañón and the Ucayali Rivers. This place is one of the hotspots for birding, as we have species of egrets, jacanas, terns and many small songbirds that live either in the forest or on floating vegetation.
After breakfast we had the opportunity to disembark and visit a village at the shore of the Marañón River. We meet the local leader, who received us and was pleased to tell us stories about life in the jungle, education, the future of the community, as well as farming and day-to-day life in this region.
Late in the afternoon, we reached Clavero Lake, navigating along the Ucayali River. This amazing jungle is surrounded by lakes and creeks, and is home to pink and grey fresh water dolphins, squirrel monkeys, pigmy marmosets and a number of other rainforest birds. Wildlife is all around, at any given moment you are watching pink dolphins, and five minutes later you set a foot on land and you have the monkeys jumping on the canopy above your head! What a crazy place!
