The vast rainforest is glowing with life at any given moment! These large trees are home to a remarkable number of mammals and birds that find food and shelter in the branches. Today we had the opportunity to explore a prime forest, with its giant trees with plenty of leaves that keep light away from the ground. Life at the foot of the giant trees is different, with few plants growing and little light it becomes a different ecosystem, which are beneficial for some species of birds, mammals and insects. Most of the creatures prefer the tree tops, where flowers, fruits, insects and plenty of sunshine occur. As we explorde the understory, we could just hear their songs sixty to a hundred feet above us.
In the afternoon, we explored Nauta Creek with a pod of pink dolphins and black waters that produce amazing reflections of the forest and clouds giving to our eyes the best views of the jungle. Also, a few feet away from our anchorage, we had a pair of three-toed sloths foraging atop secropia trees. This area also has a variety of birds that can be found perching on every tree along the river. The best sightings are the black-collared hawk and the wattled jacana. The floating rafts of vegetation are made of water lettuce and grasses, which have become the favorite spots for horned screamers to forage along the edges of the river.
The forest itself and the meeting point of the black water with the white water rivers is one of the best scenes to behold.
