NEW YORK (November 28, 2006) – The exclusive sailing yacht Sea Cloud II will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime voyage this winter as Gil Grosvenor, Chairman of the Board of the National Geographic Society, joins Sven-Olof Lindblad, President of Lindblad Expeditions, for a 14-day journey from Antigua to Barbados departing January 28, 2007.
Grosvenor and Lindblad will join the elegant Sea Cloud II in Curacao on January 31 and disembark in Trinidad on February 5. The two-week voyage will visit intimate ports of call in the pristine Leeward and Windward islands, including Bonaire, Curacao, Trinidad, Venezuela, Grenada and Tobago, with four days at sea under full sail.
As Chairman of the Board of the 118-year-old Society, Grosvenor is dedicated to increasing geographic knowledge while inspiring people to care about the planet. He served as editor of National Geographic Magazine from 1970 to 1980, and as president of the National Geographic Society from 1980 to 1996. Grosvenor was named Chairman of the Board in 1987and in 2005 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of the Society’s leadership in geography education. He is an avid sailor who will share his many experiences at sea with Sea Cloud II’s 86 guests.
Sven-Olof Lindblad is the founder of Lindblad Expeditions, the nation’s leading expedition travel company with roots founded in responsible tourism.
