Soames Summerhays

Soames Summerhays, a marine biologist and award-winning filmmaker, is passionate about communicating the wonders about our planet and its wildlife. His career as a naturalist and filmmaker has spanned the globe from pole to pole. He has led more than 110 expeditions across all oceans to remote and rarely visited places aboard expeditionary vessels such as the Lindblad Explorer. He has spent two summer seasons in Antarctic waters sampling, diving and exploring.

Soames postgraduate work specialized in oceanography and marine biology. He served the Australian Government helping to set up marine parks on the Great Barrier Reef. Subsequently, Soames specialized in producing Imax and other large format film productions in the Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. His latest large-format film release, Ocean Oasis -- about Baja California and the Sea of Cortés, catalyzed the creation of Biosphere Reserves and the creation of the Sea of Cortés World Heritage site. Ocean Oasis won "Best Theatrical" at Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival a "Green Oscar" at the Wildscreen Film Festival in England. His current program, America's Ocean Challenge, focuses on the health of North American marine ecosystems.
