Jim Laurie
Jim Laurie is a writer, broadcaster and lecturer who has witnessed many defining moments in global history over the past 50 years. A recipient of multiple Emmy®, Peabody and Overseas Press Club Awards, he has traveled the world throughout his career—first on behalf of NBC News and later for ABC News. From the fall of Saigon and the end of the Soviet Union to the start of the US war in Afghanistan, Jim has covered life-changing events on the ground and interviewed world leaders, including the Dalai Lama, Deng Xiaoping and Vladimir Putin.
Jim has also produced numerous television documentaries, including films on Cambodia, Japan and China’s Yellow River. Sharing his travel stories and broadcasting experience, he lectures widely on historical and topical events related to Asia, eastern Europe, and Africa. Jim is the author of The Last Helicopter: Two Lives in Indochina—a memoir of war, love and survival in Cambodia and Vietnam during the 1970s.
