Jack Swenson

Jack is a Seattle-based guide, wildlife biologist and professional photographer. For the past thirty years his photographs have appeared in prominent magazines, calendars and books including publications by Smithsonian, Audubon, and National Geographic. He has co-authored a photographic book on Baja California, and also a photo identification guide to the killer whales of Southeast Alaska.

As a biologist, Jack has extensive experience working with marine mammals and birds. He has worked on field studies of tropical seabirds in Hawaii, threatened shorebirds in New England, and at California’s Point Reyes Bird Observatory (PRBO) studying coastal land birds, shorebirds, seabirds and marine mammals on the Farallon Islands. Over a ten year period Jack was part of a National Marine Mammal Laboratory team studying killer whales throughout Alaskan waters. Formerly a wilderness horseback guide in Wyoming, Jack has worked with Lindblad Expeditions- National Geographic since 1988; as a naturalist, Expedition Leader, Director of Field Operations, and founding member of Lindblad’s Photo Expedition program. He is a Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Certified Photo Instructor with an extensive background in photography and photo instruction.

He and his wife, Rikki, lead Lindblad Photo Expeditions and Photo Safaris, guiding others to the world’s most remarkable photo destinations. Jack uses his skills as a photo instructor along with his knowledge of wildlife behavior to help you to better understand your camera, and how to use it to create your own outstanding images of the natural world.
