Caroline Sanchez
Passionate about rocks since her childhood in France, Caroline embraced a university career in Geosciences, with a preference for landscape studies, called geomorphology. Wanting to discover other continents’ geology, she travelled to Africa and South America especially in Chile during her undergraduate years. When not in the field or in class, she explored some remote places, such as Tierra del Fuego or the Andean Altiplano, by bike.
In love with the Andes, she continued with a PhD between Chile and France, focusing on unravelling the geological history of the Atacama Desert and the relationship between the onset of its hyperaridity and the copper superficial ore deposit formation. Then, she continued with a Postdoc position on landscape evolution, this time on the other side of the Andes, the Northern Amazonian Basin.
Besides her mineral passion, she caught the birdwatching virus while travelling in Africa, which motivated more periods abroad, travels and activism in Bird protection NGO’s in different regions. Eager to share her passion for understanding the environment while being on the field, Caroline started to embark on expedition cruises as a naturalist guide, in both polar and tropical regions. Lately, she co-authored a French book which is an introduction to geology.
