Bryan Gates
A native British Columbian, Bryan brings with him an exciting and diverse professional career. He earned a M.Sc. in wildlife management at the University of British Columbia and worked in that province as a biologist for more than 30 years. He retired in 1997 but continues to consult, travel and conduct bird research. Responsibilities for the management of birds, mammals, coastal resources, forestry and energy developments have given him an appreciation of the competing demands placed on our wilderness and environment. Educating the public about these demands and the resources they impact is his way of encouraging greater protection of our environment.
Although Bryan has worked directly with both marine and terrestrial mammals, birds are his special interest. After retirement, he taught ornithology and bird identification at the college level in Victoria. Bryan first served as ship's naturalist for Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic in 1990 and has since traveled many times with us throughout the world.
