Alex Rubenstein

Alex grew up surrounded by the endless outdoors of Portland, OR, his summers filled with nature day camp, hiking, basketball, mountain biking, and more basketball. After working as a nature day camp teacher with Portland Parks & Recreation through his teens and falling in love with the ecology of the Pacific Northwest, he went on to become an outdoor guide in his college's outdoor adventure leadership program. His journey towards photography and filmmaking began with a fruitful foray into stand-up comedy and student theater that soon transformed into an unrelenting passion for documentary filmmaking and wildlife and conservation photography. After studying international affairs, film studies, and Arabic in Washington, DC, Alex worked as an assistant editor at a documentary media company before becoming a full-time video editor, crafting short videos on topics ranging from cash bail reform and psychedelic medicine to greenhouse technology, microchip implants, and vertical farming. Despite all his various film and photo interests, it is his love of wild places that truly make him feel most at home.

Alex has worked both as a videographer and photo instructor / naturalist for Lindblad Expeditions; his work has taken him on voyages around southeast Alaska, the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver Island & San Juan Islands), and Antarctica. In addition to being a freelance photographer and documentary filmmaker, he loves making music videos and comedy sketches with his friends, and is currently producing and editing several conservation documentary film projects out of his home base in Boulder, CO. When he's not playing with cameras you can find Alex playing guitar, board games, mountain biking, and yes, still playing lots of basketball.
